CLE Town Planning + Design was engaged by Curtin University in 2018 to obtain two Development Assessment Panel approvals for the $39 million refurbishment of the heritage-listed Curtin University T.L. Robertson Library. 

CLE Town Planning + Design's role as lead planner required the preparation of planning documentation demonstrating that the proposal was in keeping with overarching strategic objectives for the University precinct as well as the state and local planning framework. CLE Town Planning + Design undertook regular liaison with the DPLH and  the Town of Victoria Park to ensure a supportive development approval pathway, with approvals granted following CLE Town Planning + Design presentations at each JDAP meeting.

Key components of the proposed refurbishment included the addition of an additional storey of library working space, a servicing tower and significant external improvements. In the context of the recognised heritage value of the Library and its importance within the University setting, CLE Town Planning + Design ensured the careful management of these components of the proposal.
