Sam Kerr Football Centre

WA State Government

In July 2023, the State Government unveiled the Sam Kerr Football Centre, in time to welcome international teams training for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.

Just a few years earlier, the Department of Finance and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries had engaged CLE to secure the planning approval for this landmark piece of sporting infrastructure.

With joint State and Federal funding totalling $46 million, the 16-hectare site comprises a two-storey facility with an integrated grandstand, two full-size competition and training pitches, on-site parking, and three five-a-side playing fields.

The centre now serves as a premier high-performance training hub for football in Western Australia, supporting elite athlete development while also delivering long-term community and sporting benefits through improved access to world-class facilities.

Surfing WA Headquarters

Surfing WA C/- Successful Projects

CLE obtained planning approval for the Surfing WA Headquarters at Trigg Beach. The Headquarters will support professional surfing, development coaching, education, competition event coordination and grassroots surfing lessons.

This unique planning proposal involved a lease arrangement, partially located within the foreshore and within land reserved for Parks and Recreation. CLE had to ensure that documentation supporting the proposal demonstrated that the use of the land was consistent with the objectives of the reserve and would provide benefit to the community.

As the lead planner was critical in securing this approval. CLE  navigated a unique planning process, with extensive liaison with key stakeholders including the City of Stirling, City of Stirling Design Review Panel and the DPLH, as well as a presentation at the Statutory Planning Committee.

Optus Stadium

WA State Government

The Optus Stadium was officially opened in January 2018.

CLE was engaged by the State Government to prepare a comprehensive Masterplan that established the overarching design framework and guiding principles for both the stadium and its surrounding precinct. This work provided the strategic foundation for the coordinated delivery of the broader Burswood Park redevelopment.

The Masterplan played a critical role in shaping the integration of world-class sporting infrastructure with high-quality public realm, transport connectivity and event functionality, ultimately supporting the successful delivery of the award-winning Optus Stadium and its evolution into a premier destination for sport, entertainment and community events in Western Australia.
