In 2020, plans by the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation for a children’s hospice for Western Australia were unveiled. The facility will be the first of its kind in WA, providing residential accommodation and care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families, in a homely setting far removed from a hospital environment.

CLE Town Planning + Design was appointed to provide planning input into the process of obtaining tenure for the selected site in Swanbourne and to convene and chair a Stakeholder Reference Group to enable members of the public, people with specialist expertise, local businesses and groups and the local government to provide input to the project. In 2021, CLE Town Planning + Design prepared the Development Application for the Hospice and in 2023 this was approved by the WAPC following an assessment by the State Development Assessment Unit.

CLE Town Planning + Design’s role has required the provision of strategic advice about preferred planning options, negotiation of a new planning approval pathway (the SDAU), co-operation with a large, multidisciplinary consultant team and major Client and preparation of a major development proposal, including post-lodgement tasks and deputations to decision-making bodies.
